Gannawarra Shire Council’s support of the creative sector – which includes arts, culture and creative activations – is outlined in a new strategy adopted at the October 2021 Council Meeting.
Developed following engagement with the Gannawarra’s community, the Creative Gannawarra Strategy 2021-2025 replaces Council’s Creative Arts and Activation Strategy 2016-2020.
“Whether it is exhibitions, performances, workshops or other art events, the Gannawarra is renowned for its promotion of the creative sector,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.
“The Creative Gannawarra Strategy 2021-2025 reflects Council’s commitment to effective engagement with the community in promoting and facilitating art projects that inspire creativity and celebrate local creative people, industries and organisations.”
The Creative Gannawarra Strategy 2021-2025 features eight goals Council will strive to achieve during the next four years, and is built on four strategic categories of activities: Community; Partnerships; Programming; and Engagement.
Also adopted at the October 2021 Council Meeting was Council’s Public Art policy, which outlines an accountable decision-making process about the design, placement and conservation of artworks on Council-managed land within the Gannawarra Shire.
“Through its continued support of artistic projects, Council has accumulated an extensive collection of artwork. The Public Art policy provides a framework for the commission and acquisition of artworks that will become either public art or part of Council’s art collection,” Mayor Gillingham said.
“Council thanks all residents who took the opportunity to shape both documents and looks forward to working with our local creatives to achieve the goals outlined in the Creative Gannawarra Strategy 2021-2025.”
