Lighting up Leitchville's sporting precinct

Leitchville Recreation Reserve users will benefit from improved lighting after Gannawarra Shire Council approved a proposal from Enel Green Power to upgrade existing lighting and install a new light system.

Approved at Council’s October 2021 Council Meeting, the proposal will see Enel Green Power - owner of the Cohuna Solar Farm – install four lighting towers with energy efficient, LED lighting and smart control functionality.

The proposal is a key part of Enel Green Power’s approach to community engagement and benefit sharing, to ensure the Cohuna Solar Farm builds and maintains a social license and delivers positive outcomes to the local community.

Enel Green Power will provide all upfront capital expenditure for the project excluding ongoing care, control, maintenance, and depreciation, which will be the Council’s responsibility once the project is completed.

“The upgrade of the Leitchville Recreation Reserve’s lighting will benefit current and future users of this popular facility,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

“Once completed, the reserve will be the second facility in the Gannawarra capable of hosting night football and cricket matches, whilst facility users will benefit from reduced operational and maintenance costs.”

Leitchville residents identified the need to upgrade the Leitchville Recreation Reserve’s oval lighting as a priority during the Gannawarra Shire Sport and Recreation Strategy 2019-2029 community engagement process.

"Council looks forward to Enel Green Power undertaking this community project and the Leitchville community embracing new uses for this popular facility,” Mayor Gillingham said.
