Applications for the James Stevens Scholarship are now open and are being accepted until close of business Friday 5 November.

Maroondah Mayor, Councillor Kylie Spears said this scholarship provides a great opportunity for a local student.

“The James N Stevens Scholarship provides practical placement for a Maroondah based student who has completed at least the first year of a course at a tertiary institution or college and is about to start their second year studies, or someone who is already into their second year of study,” said Cr Spears.

The areas of study eligible to apply for the practical placement scholarship are: Finance/Accounting; Records Management; Information Technology; Customer Service; Human Resources; Council Administration (e.g. Governance); Rates/Revenue; and Risk Management.

“The intent of the scholarship is to provide practical placement within Council’s Corporate Services Directorate to assist the recipient’s development and provide an insight into career opportunities in Local Government administration,” said Cr Spears.

“The scholarship is offered in recognition of the many years of service given to the local community by the former Deputy Town Clerk of the former City of Croydon, the late James (Jim) Stevens,” said Cr Spears.

“I’d encourage eligible students to apply as this is a great and rare opportunity for work experience in your chosen field,” said Cr Spears.

The Scholarship is for one student and is valued at $3000. The scholarship needs to be completed within the summer of 2021/2022 at a mutually convenient time.

The closing date for applications this year is 5pm, Friday 5 November.
