Town of Cambridge Welcomes New and Returning Councillors

The Town of Cambridge Council formally welcomed two new Councillors, Mr Xavier Carr and Ms Jane Cutler representing the Coast Ward, when they took the Oath of Office in front of Mayor Keri Shannon at the Special Meeting of Council on Tuesday 19, October.

Both Councillor Carr and Cutler were the successful candidates from a field of four for the two vacancies in the Coast Ward when the statewide Local Government elections concluded on Saturday, 16 October.

Councillors Gary Mack and Rob Fredericks were also sworn in after being successful in retaining their seats in the election for the two vacancies in the Wembley Ward. The newly formed Council were then were asked to put forward nominations for the position of Deputy Mayor with Councillor Kate Barlow being successful and taking the oath with Mayor Shannon.

Mayor Keri Shannon extended her congratulations and welcomed the new Council that will be in place for the next two years.

“I especially congratulate Councillor Barlow on becoming Deputy Mayor,” Mayor Shannon said.

“I am pleased to see our hard work, to overcome the division between the wards, has worked and there is no better example than the election of Councillor  Mack, a long-time resident of City Beach, by the community of Wembley and West Leederville as their representative on the council.”

Mayor Shannon also made mention of the election of one the Town of Cambridge’s youngest ever Councillors in Xavier Carr.

“It is refreshing to have someone from a younger age group so passionate about his local community that he wished to become a Councillor.”
