A part of Australia’s identity for more than 200 years, the sport of kings is reportedly worth $9 billion to the economy and is responsible for more than 70,000 direct jobs. The Melbourne Cup, now in its 160th year, is one of the richest races in the world. Australians gamble more than $1 billion a year on horse and dog racing. Of the nearly 1 million who gamble regularly, 40% (400,000 people) experience gambling-related problems.
