The Council would like to announce that Fairbrother Pty Ltd have been engaged to construct Stage B of the Penguin Foreshore and Remediation Project (for works outside of the rail corridor). TasRail is supporting this project by tendering the works within the rail corridor.
Stage B of the project will begin in Penguin on Tuesday 2 November 2021 and there are three important community announcements below:
Signage has now been installed along the northern curb of Surf Club Road to inform road users of “no standing”. This will allow heavy machinery and trucks to supply rock material into the Stage B construction site. Surf Club Road will be sealed at the conclusion of the Stage B project and will include appropriate road markings. The construction site for Fairbrother is located at Surf Club Point and Watcombe Beach (on the northern side of the railway). The construction site will also be closed Monday-Friday between 6.30am and 5pm (excluding public holidays). At this stage, the Council has been able to ensure that Surf Club Road and the public toilets in Zvoni Gornik Lions Park remain open for the entirety of the project. However, for the safety of the public and Fairbrother staff and its subcontractors, the Council will need to be guided by the Health, Safety and Environmental reporting mechanisms from Fairbrother regarding potential closures. The Council hopes the community is now enjoying the many benefits of Stage A of this project including the important protection of town assets. The Council regrets any inconvenience that may be caused by Stage B of the project and asks for the community’s cooperation, patience and safety during the construction period. Construction is expected to be completed by 30 June 2022.
