Held from 8–14 November, National Recycling Week aims to help you reduce your waste and recycle right.
This year National Recycling Week is celebrating its 25th anniversary, with a focus on celebrating your way—whether you work a school, an office or are part of a community group, or would like to get your household or workplace involved.
The City of Fremantle is hosting a range of events to help us be the best recyclers we can be.
Celebrate National Recycling Week in Freo by heading along to one of the free community events below!
Fremantle Community TourWould you like to learn a bit more about how you can make a difference to the environment by placing your waste in the correct bin? Come down to the Canning Vale Centre on Monday 8 November 10am–11:30am to see how the contents of your recycling and FOGO bins are processed at the Resource Recovery Group Canning Vale Centre.
On the community tour you will get to see:
the FOGO Processing Facility, where FOGO material is pre-processed to remove contamination. the Green Waste Facility, where garden waste is turned into mulch. the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), where recyclables are separated, baled and sold for reuse. the Education Centre, where there are lots more resources to help you to reduce, reuse and recycle.Free event, bookings essential. Precious Plastics WorkshopCome along to Sullivan Hall on Tuesday 9 November 6–8pm to attend Before the Bin— a range of interactive worships on waste, plastics, microplastics, Sustainability, Circular Economy and more!
The workshops will host a range of topics, such as:
defining waste who ‘owns’ waste where our waste goes product life cycles and why we need to rethink it moving towards a more sustainable and circular futureLight refreshments will be provided.

Saving Soft Plastics with REDcycleIf you're curious about what exactly our soft plastics are made into and what our recycling program achieves, join the lunchtime webinar on Wednesday 10 12pm –1pm to have all your questions answered. We’ll look at what products are made with our recycled soft plastics, the future of soft plastic recycling, and how you can get behind the whole new initiative.

Fremantle Recycling Centre Community TourThe Town of East Fremantle and City of Fremantle residents are invited to come on a free tour of the Fremantle Recycling Centre Thursday 11 November 10–11am. Come along to discover what items can be recycled and drop off over 35 items at the centre for recycling.

Precious Plastics WorkshopJourney through the history of plastics in the workshops titled Plastics: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on Thursday 11 November 6–8pm. Join these interactive workshops to explore such topics as:
the invention of plastics and how it revolutionised our lives the consequences of excessive plastic production and consumption plastic waste management and recycling challenges moving towards a more sustainable and circular futureLight refreshments will be provided.

Fremantle Recycling Centre Welcome DayHead down to the Fremantle Recycling Centre Saturday 13 November for a sausage sizzle as you recycle. While you’re there, have a chat to our Waste Officers who will be there to answer any of your recycling questions. The welcome day will be free for the first 150 residents 12–2pm, or until sausages run out.
