Nominations open for 2022 Australia Day Awards

Nominations for the 2022 Yass Valley Australia Day Awards are now open, with the community called upon to nominate outstanding individuals or groups who make a significant contribution and difference to the Yass Valley.

Awards categories for the 2022 Australia Day Awards are:

Citizen of the Year. Young Citizen of the Year. Senior Citizen of the Year. Community Group of the Year. Individual Community Service.

Dive into summer with Council’s 2021/22 Swimming Program

As the weather warms up, now is the perfect time to enroll your child in Yass Valley Council’s 2021/22 Swimming Program.

From stroke correction to competitive swimming, there is a wide range of programs on offer after school, from Monday to Friday, at Yass Memorial Swimming Pool to help children improve their swimming abilities.

Riverbank Park survey closing

Don’t forget to have your say on the new Adventure Playspace at Riverbank Park.

Vote for your preferred design before the survey closes at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, 10 November.

Works progress

The Learn to Ride Facility at Miles Franklin Park is now completed. The fences will remain in place over the next few weeks to allow the grass seed sown around the site time to establish. Completion of the Gundaroo Recreation Ground amenities building upgrade has been pushed back by a few weeks due to a delayed delivery. Murrumbateman Winery Trail – earthworks continuing along the Crisps Lane and McIntosh Circuit section of the pathway. Nanima Road stage two – works are progressing well and continuing on site. Shingle Hill Way Bridge replacement – contractors are currently undertaking earthworks and commencing construction of the abutment piling platform. Illalong Road – works completed. Morton Avenue – work is continuing on site. Cusack Place – work is now underway on site and should be completed by mid-December. Heavy patching is well underway and will be ongoing over the next few months. Resealing works to commence soon. Survey and design work is underway for the Mulligans Flat Road safety upgrade. Fixing Local Roads stage two road rehabilitations – Yass River Road (the first of four roads) is now underway. Safety Around Schools projects – Yass Public School design work is underway. Contractors have been appointed for the Berinba Public School connectivity upgrades and Sutton Public School refuge projects. Contractor appointed to undertake upgrades on the Joe O’Connor Park carpark. Work to begin on 21 December. Line marking contract RFQ is live on Tenderlink. Preliminary works to commence on Back Creek Road over the next few weeks. Murrumbateman Road Safety upgrades – a contractor has been appointed; clearing works to commence early 21 December.

Public Consultation

Have your say on the Adventure Playspace at Riverbank Park Closing: 5:00 pm Wednesday, 10 November Yass Valley Council has commenced planning to build a new Adventure Playspace at Riverbank Park and is inviting the public to provide feedback on the concept designs.

Re-establishment of Alcohol Free Zone Closing: 5:00 pm Friday, 12 November In accordance with Section 644(1) of the Local Government Act 1993, Yass Valley Council proposes to re-establish the Alcohol Free Zone that was previously in place in the main street area of Yass CBD.

Draft Yass Valley Housing Issues Paper Closing: 5:00 pm Friday, 3 December The paper will inform the upcoming Yass Valley Settlement Strategy review and advocacy to the NSW Government.

Vacancies Lifeguard (multiple) Closing: This position will remain open until we have fully staffed our pool for the 2021/22 season. The Lifeguard position provides supervision and swimming lessons to Yass Valley community members during the summer pool season. The position also maintains the pool facilities and provides emergency rescue, first aid support, and ensures a safe environment for clients, colleagues and members of the public.

Operations Engineer Water and Wastewater Closing: 5:00 pm Monday, 22 November This position provides engineering support and guidance for the efficient day-to-day operation, maintenance and upgrade of water and wastewater assets including dams, treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, reticulation, water services, water meters, sewer connections and water quality monitoring (operational and compliance).

Junior Library Assistant Closing: 4:00 pm Monday, 30 November Will you be in year 10 or 11 in the year 2022? Are you looking for an interesting part-time position in a public library where you get to talk to others about books and help people to find information? The position is a 12-month placement and applicants must be able to commence work in January 2022. The hours for this position are Thursday 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm, with additional hours available during school holidays.
