Central Highlands playgrounds feature Australian first equipment

Central Highlanders will be the first in Australia to enjoy two exciting new playground products.

As part of upgrades to council playgrounds in Capella and Bauhinia, Queensland-based playground designers Urban Play will install the innovative play pieces.

‘Council’s parks and playgrounds are much-loved by the many families who call our region home, as well as our visitors,’ Mayor Kerry Hayes said.

‘These public spaces allow children to learn, exercise and make new friendships. They are an important part of life in the Highlands and we are excited to bring some state-of-the-art, inclusive equipment to Capella and Bauhinia.’

Paying homage to the rich agricultural history of the area, the new playground at Bauhinia Community Hall features an Australian-first KOMPAN Barn. The vibrant barn is covered in creative illustrations such as chickens, hay and a barn door, inspiring mini-farmers of all ages to play. The inclusive play unit has ground level and elevated play activities, a play desk, three slides, fireman’s pole, hammock and naughts and crosses panel to engage children in physical, social, creative and cognitive play.

Currently, under construction, Capella Park will be home to the Cliff Rider Extreme, an innovative and thrilling piece of play equipment that pole-vaults children from platform to platform at over 2 metres high. The challenging, yet incredibly fun, play piece trains children’s self-esteem, courage, proprioception, coordination and balance.

‘I am absolutely stoked to deliver two Australian-first play pieces for the region,’ Urban Play playground designer Kyle Marsden said.

‘As regional tourism ramps up, playgrounds are important for providing a space for travellers to rest and play.

‘Studies have shown the importance of risky play for kid’s development and this play piece is the answer to that. The Cliff Rider is a great way for kids to experience thrilling and risky play, in a safe environment.’
