Love Local This Christmas

Mayor Katrina Humphries said she’s impressed by the impact the Love Local program is still having.

“The Love Local gift cards are such a noble initiative and I’m still blown away by the number of businesses that participate. It’s a great way to support our local economy and it celebrates what unique retail, eateries, and services our Moree Plains has to offer”, said Cr Humphries.

“This Christmas I encourage everyone to buy Love Local Moree Cards for family and friends, in and out of the Shire. We can get everyone on board and help support local businesses that have supported our community for years.”

There are more than 100 participating businesses across the shire, so the possibilities are almost endless for the lucky gift card recipient. Local hair and beauty salons, cafes, restaurants and pubs, retail, and agribusinesses are ready to accept Love Local gift cards, while some of these businesses are also Load-Up Stores.

Robin's Nest for Children owner Dibs Cush said her business has been involved with the Love Local initiative since it began in 2019 and is still a firm believer in it.

“The gift cards are great because they’re keeping the money in the community and are great exposure for businesses. It encourages people to try new stores and sometimes they discover the shop has something they were looking for but weren’t expecting to find. The experience can lead to nice surprises like that”, said Mrs. Cush.

“We also have a farming business with employees who go above and beyond every time. The cards make a nice way of saying ‘thank you for the hard work’.”

Given the impacts of drought, flood, and COVID-19 the Love Local gift cards provide a perfect opportunity for residents to support and celebrate local business while giving to those close to us this festive season.
