Six prize-winning quilts from Central Goldfields permanent art quilt collection will be on display at Ararat Gallery TAMA from Saturday, 30 October 2021.

Every two years the Central Goldfields Art Gallery holds ‘Golden Textures’, a national contemporary art quilt exhibition and award. The prize-winning quilt from the biennial exhibition becomes part of the Gallery’s permanent quilt collection.

“Central Goldfields Shire is delighted to be partnering with Ararat Rural City Council in the presentation of the Golden Textures Art Quilts exhibition at Ararat Gallery TAMA,” Central Goldfields Shire Mayor, Chris Meddows-Taylor said.

“While Central Goldfields Art Gallery is closed for a major redevelopment, we are thrilled that our wonderful art quilts collection could be loaned to the Ararat Gallery which has such a strong textile collection.”

Ararat Rural City Council Mayor Jo Armstrong notes the exhibition brings together the rich works that constitute the region’s long connection with textile manufacturing and wool production.

“The Golden Textures Award honours the long tradition of textile manufacturing in rural Victoria at local knitting mills,” Cr Armstrong said.

“We’re delighted to be presenting these beautiful, intricate quilts, lovingly produced by established and emerging art quilters from around Australia, and shared with us here for our community to enjoy.

“Key works from both renowned makers Jenny Bacon, Ruth de Vos, and Suzanne Lyle are on display, showcasing the intricate patched and pieced works made in Australia.

“The display will be truly special – visitors will have a rare opportunity to admire the prize-winning quilts and appreciate the technical skill and storytelling behind the pieces at Ararat Gallery TAMA.”

Ararat Gallery TAMA is open from 10am to 4pm daily. Entry is free. Contact the Gallery on 03 5355 0200 for further enquiries.
