Have your say on the Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park upgrade

Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park is set to receive an upgrade, thanks to a $2 million funding boost from the NSW Government’s NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program.

The project will include upgrades to the play space and improvements to the duck pond, visitor facilities and surrounding landscape.

Blue Mountains City Council is inviting the community to participate in a survey about the play space upgrade at yoursay.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/blackheath-memorial-park-legacy-project. The survey closes Friday, 7 January 2022.

“Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park is a significant heritage park that the broad Blue Mountains community regularly enjoys,” Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said.  

“Parks contribute to the health and wellbeing of our community and we look forward to this upgrade which will improve this district park.

“We value what the community has to say about how this space is used and I therefore urge our residents to take this quick survey, to share their ideas for these improvements.”

The upgrade will be in line with the Masterplan for Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park, adopted in 2020 after two years of extensive community consultation. 

The NSW Government is investing up to $250 million through the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program to support councils to deliver more and better public spaces across the state. 

Blue Mountains City Council received funding for two Legacy projects: Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park and the Corridor of Oaks, Jackson Park, at Faulconbridge.

This project is in addition to the works currently underway at Blackheath Soldiers Memorial involving the new toilet block and accessible path. This is a separate project funded under the Western Parkland City Liveability Program, which is part of the Western Sydney City Deal (WSCD).
