Benalla Rural City Council has elected a new mayor to lead them for the next year.
Councillor Hearn was elected to the top spot at Council’s meeting tonight, alongside Councillor Firth as Deputy Mayor.
Cr Hearn said that it was an incredibly proud moment to be elected as Mayor.
“I am honoured to be elected as Mayor of the Rural City and I will continue to work hard for our vibrant and diverse community, to ensure it continues to prosper as we emerge from challenging times.”
"I look forward to leading a unified council, representing the whole community and striving for further improvements and sound financial management,” Cr Hearn said.
In her address to Council following her election, Cr Hearn thanked her fellow Councillors for their expression of support and confidence.
“I thank outgoing Mayor Cr Claridge for his leadership over the past 12 months. I have admired his passion and commitment to the community, particularly during a year of significant stress, change and challenges for so many in our community.”
“I also congratulate my fellow Councillors, management and staff on their achievements in representing our community,” Cr Hearn said.
Cr Hearn was first elected to Council in October 2016.
Mayoral elections were held at Council’s Meeting on Wednesday 10 November.
