Works associated with Stage 2 of the Cohuna Waterfront Development will begin on Monday, 22 November.
The project, which is part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Connections Project and is supported by the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund, aims to provide greater connections between the Cohuna CBD and Garden Park.
“Council looks forward to the start of these works, with stage one of the development already enhancing the popularity of Apex Park for residents and visitors,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“It is anticipated that stage two of this project will inspire further commercial and liveability opportunities for both residents and visitors.”
As part of the works, the footpath along the Garden Park section of King George Street will be replaced with exposed aggregate.
Pedestrian access around this area will be diverted as these works occur, with car parking spaces to be reduced.
“It is anticipated these works will be completed by mid-December, catering for the traditional influx of people to Cohuna during the Christmas and New Year period,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Work associated with other key components of the development, including construction of deck pontoon on the banks of Gunbower Creek, dedicated outdoor dining areas either side of the King George Street pedestrian crossing and a seated area at the intersection of King George and Sampson streets, will occur in early 2022.
“Council thanks residents, business owners and visitors for their patience as these works occur and looks forward to the completion of this project by the end of March 2022.”
