The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has reported that the pandemic has provided scammers with an excellent opportunity to take advantage of unsuspecting people, with Australians losing a record of $851 million to scams in 2020 alone.
“Unfortunately, regionally-based residents and business owners are not immune to scammers. Scammers are growing in sophistication and have absolutely no regard for their victims. It is important that residents and business owners stay up to date with emerging scams to ensure they don’t get caught out” said Michael Mack, CEO of WAW.
CEO of Hume Bank, Stephen Capello, said “We very much welcome the opportunity to collaborate with WAW on this very important topic. We know every financial institution puts a lot of time and effort into preventing their customers from being scammed.
“We hope that these educational webinars will provide attendees with knowledge about how they can better detect scammers in the future so as not to become a victim”.
