Water wins rolling in for Capella

Capella residents can breathe a sigh of relief with recent rainfall almost doubling the town’s combined dam levels to 47% and allowing water harvesting for the first time since February 2021.

The wet weather has also caused a significant decrease in Capella’s residential water usage, smashing the region’s goal to Drop20%.

‘Congratulations to all Capella residents for significantly lowering their water usage over the last month,’ said Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes.

‘While the rain certainly helps to keep our gardens alive and lower outdoor water consumption, it also goes to show what essential water consumption looks like in our communities.

‘Lush grass and thriving plants is a luxury we hope to bask in over the wetter summer months; however, no matter what the rain gauge says, water is our most precious resource to conserve all year round.  

‘I encourage all Capella residents to reflect on their water usage over the last month and to continue only using treated water for the necessities.’

Council continues to implement water sustainability works in Capella, including recently identifying and fixing leaks throughout the town and engaging specialist engineers to audit treatment plant systems.

‘Water sustainability in Capella is currently a high priority and the recent rainfall and works are certainly a step in the right direction,’ said Acting General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities Jason Hoolihan.

‘The community’s support in water conservation is imperative, and we encourage all Capella residents to come along to our community water meeting on Tuesday 7 December 2021 to have your say.’
