With the annual Schoolies Week celebrations due to officially start this weekend, Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon, is asking teenagers to make sure they comply with all Public Health orders relating to COVID-19.
This includes using QR codes to check in to shops, venues and other places, wearing masks when necessary and social distancing.
“It’s been a tough year for the 2021 Year 12 cohort and I know they will be wanting to let their hair down which is understandable,” Mayor Lyon said.
“Schoolies Week kicks off this weekend and runs until mid-December and just like at home, COVID restrictions apply in holiday towns like Byron Bay,” he said.
“Police will be out and about during the day and night keeping an eye on things at Byron Bay and the Red Frog volunteers will also be there providing support to teenagers.
“I think all of us remember very well the excitement of finishing our formal schooling and with the added pressure of COVID-19, this is a milestone that is much anticipated by the graduates of 2021,” Mayor Lyon said.
“This is also a reminder to visitors be respectful of the people who live and work in the Byron Shire and to look after the place we call home,” he said.
Information about COVID-19, including links to NSW Public Health Orders are on Council’s website.
