Councils join forces to tackle climate change

Macedon Ranges Shire Council has joined the Cities Power Partnership aligning itself with more than 150 councils across Australia dedicated to a zero emissions future, slashing greenhouse gas pollution and tackling worsening climate change.

Mayor Cr Jennifer Anderson said the Cities Power Partnership represents almost 60 per cent of Australia’s population and we are proud to join the hundreds of councils, shires, towns and cities across Australia that are cutting greenhouse gas pollution, switching to clean energy and building resilient communities.”

“By joining the Cities Power Partnership, Macedon Ranges Shire Council confirms its commitment to climate action and reinforces its March 2021 Declaration of Climate Emergency.”

“Through the program, Council has the opportunity to build on its emissions reduction work to date, share knowledge and experience with fellow member councils, and contribute to a collaborative effort to effectively address climate change at the local level.”

“We understand that meaningful action on climate change is a high priority for our residents and ratepayers and Cities Power Partnership will be an important step for Council to kick start a number of important local climate projects,” she said.

Cities Power Partnership acting director Dr Portia Odell welcomed Macedon Ranges Shire Council to the partnership and commended the council for taking positive action on climate change.

“I would like to congratulate Macedon Ranges Shire Council on joining the local climate leaders in the Cities Power Partnership, who are shaping the way that Australian communities use and generate energy.”

“Since the program’s inception, Cities Power Partnership councils have launched more than 780 climate projects. I’m looking forward to seeing what Macedon Ranges Shire Council will bring to the Cities Power Partnership,” Dr Odell said.
