The Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools are set to be the place to keep cool this summer, with an extensive program of events planned.
Extended operating hours of 10am to 8pm for both Gannawarra Shire Council-managed facilities will come into effect from tomorrow, 1 December and be in place until Monday, 28 February.
Both pools will also be open from 12 noon to 7pm on public holidays, including Boxing Day and Australia Day, but will be closed on Christmas Day.
“Although the Gannawarra has experienced a cooler than average period during late November, our dedicated team of lifeguards and regular pool visitors are looking forward to what will hopefully be a traditionally warm summer,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“Numerous events, including giant inflatable sessions, themed days and water aerobics sessions, are also planned this summer.”
Residents who enjoy an early morning swim will also benefit from the resumption of the annual morning laps program running at the Cohuna and Kerang swimming pools from tomorrow until Thursday, 24 February 2022.
“The program will be held at the Cohuna Swimming Pool between 6am and 8.30am Tuesdays and Thursdays, with sessions at the Kerang Swimming Pool occurring from 6am to 8.30am Wednesdays,” Mr O’Reilly said.
As part of Council’s adherence to the State Government’s Victoria’s Roadmap: Delivering the National Plan, all visitors who are older than 12 years and two months will need to have received both COVID-19 vaccinations and provide verification of their vaccination status or have a valid medical exemption to enter either facility.
“Acceptable proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status includes displaying your COVID-19 Digital Certificate via the Service Victoria app or saved to your smart phone,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“A printed version of your COVID-19 Digital Certificate, Immunisation History Statement or valid medical exemption, together with photo identification, will also be accepted.
“Council thanks residents and visitors for their understanding and adherence of these State Government COVID-19 health directions.”
Activities planned during summer 2021/22 and any changes to opening times at either facility, either due to inclement weather or days the forecast maximum temperature is 23 degrees Celsius or lower, will be promoted via Council’s Facebook page – www.facebook.com/gannawarra
“Visitors to the Gannawarra’s swimming pools are reminded to listen to any guidance provided by the lifeguards on duty. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to actively supervise their children at all times,” Mr O’Reilly said.
