Following several months of community engagement, consultation and workshops across the region, the Great Southern Arts, Culture and Heritage Draft Strategy is now available for public comment.

Funded through the Leveraged Creative and Cultural Planning Fund from the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries and Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development, the draft is the first of its kind.

The region is already known for its rich heritage and unique way of life.

The strategy builds on the Great Southern’s creative and cultural strengths, with recommendations to grow industry capacity and networks, build cultural identity and attract investment for current and future cultural assets and infrastructure.

City of Albany Manager Arts and Culture Paul Nielsen said the Great Southern Arts, Culture and Heritage Draft Strategy had been a significant undertaking across the region.

“The Great Southern is home to many talented individuals, a deep-rooted history and many stories that need to be heard to be believed,” he said.

“The Great Southern Arts, Culture and Heritage Draft Strategy has encapsulated many of these elements of our region and is ready for community review.

“This is an opportunity for those who took part in the creation of this strategy to see the impact of their input and those who are keen to learn more to do so.”

The draft strategy is available to download and make comment here until 10 December.
