A community celebration will be held on Tuesday, 14 December to mark the official opening of the Koondrook All Abilities Playground.

Gannawarra Shire Council in conjunction with the Koondrook Development Committee will host festivities to mark the final step in a community and Council-led journey to convert the former Koondrook Memorial Hall site into the Gannawarra’s first all abilities play space.

“The Koondrook All Abilities Playground is an example of Council and the community working together to benefit residents and visitors, and the celebrations planned on 14 December will highlight this,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

“Since the project’s completion in September, the playground’s attractions, which include water and sand play areas, net climber, flying fox, in-ground trampolines have been popular for residents and visitors to Koondrook.

“The Koondrook Hall Committee, Koondrook Development Committee, school children and residents who engaged with Council during the community engagement period should all take pride in the finished product – a playground that enables people of all abilities to socialise together.”

Festivities will occur between 5pm and 7pm, with attractions including live music by Elise Drake, face painting and other children’s activities and a free barbecue dinner.

“Please note that COVIDsafe measures will be in place at the event, with attendees requested to sign in upon arrival,” Mayor Gillingham said.

The $592,000 Koondrook All Abilities Playground was supported by a $390,000 grant from the State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund, the Koondrook Hall Committee ($25,000), Koondrook Development Committee ($22,500, including funding from the Bus Stop Recycle Shop) and Gannawarra Shire Council.

This community celebration is supported by the Victorian Government COVIDSafe Outdoor Activation Fund 2021.
