Important information regarding the disposal of mattresses and tyres within Lithgow Local Government Area

Lithgow Council reminds residents that disposal of mattresses and tyres within Council rural landfills and transfer stations is prohibited. These facilities are clearly signposted with a full list of prohibited items.

Mattresses and tyres are accepted at Lithgow Solid Waste Facility only. These items are recovered and recycled to allow beneficial re-use of the materials rather than simply burying in a landfill and causing long term environmental impacts. A fee of $10 per mattress/base and $6.50 per car tyre is charged to offset the cost of Council providing this valuable recycling service.

Fines are applicable for unauthorised disposal at Council waste facilities, including disposal of mattress and/or tyres at rural sites. Residents must make themselves aware of disposal restrictions before unloading at these sites. Further information is available on Council’s website or by phoning Council directly.
