Gannawarra Shire Council’s Creative Gannawarra program, which supports the municipality’s creative sector, is preparing for a busy year of events.
With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, planning for performances scheduled at venues throughout the Gannawarra is underway.
“Our creative sector was one of many industries impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions on the number of people who could gather indoors limiting opportunities for exhibitions, performances and workshops to occur,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“Council looks forward to welcoming performances such as The Listies’ Rolling on the Floor Laughing and Mama Kin Spender’s Sound of Your Town, to the Gannawarra in 2022, with both performances delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Creative Gannawarra is also pleased to confirm that renowned Indigenous singer and storyteller Kutcha Edwards will bring his Circling Time performance to the Gannawarra next year. Damian Callinan, who wowed audiences in the Gannawarra in 2018 with Swing Man, will return in 2022 with The Hall Committee, with other performances planned for the whole family at venues across the Gannawarra.”
A key milestone towards planning for future events occurred on Monday, 29 November when Council hosted the first Creative Gannawarra Art Salon.
Held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Community Room, the evening enabled the Gannawarra’s creative community, as well as those wanting to learn more about this sector, to meet, share ideas and learn how local communities can work together to deliver a creative project or event.
“Those who attended this event gained valuable experience regarding how to host a local creative event from community volunteer and event organiser Angela Hird and Kerang artist Kerryn Finch, with the program enabling engaging discussions regarding future events,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Details regarding Creative Gannawarra events planned for 2022 will be promoted via Council’s website, Gannawarra News, Gannawarra Connect and online at Creative Gannawarra facebook page and at www.gsc.vic.gov.au/CreativeGannawarra
