An Interim Operator for the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre (MAAC)

Moree Plains Shire Council has selected Belgravia Leisure as the short-term operator for the Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre (MAAC). This follows the review of proposals from organisations that have experience managing leisure and aquatic facilities.

Council's General Manager, Lester Rodgers said this is good news for the community.

“This marks a new chapter with the conclusion of most of the liquidation process and the return of limited services such as the gym, program pool, and splash pad (Children's hydroplay area) ”, said Mr. Rodgers.

“Belgravia Leisure was selected because they showed a strong awareness of the MAAC’s potential, especially the Artesian baths’ tourism opportunities. Their proposal demonstrated proficiency in delivering customer experiences and Learn to Swim and Life Saver Programs. Noting the diversity of our community, Belgravia Leisure will also encourage users' feedback to better utilise the facility.”

Belgravia Leisure CEO, Nick Cox said his company is looking forward to working with Council, stakeholders and the community to reopen and bring back services at the MAAC as quickly as possible.

“We are excited for what the future holds serving Moree and the surrounding communities. We’re going to hire local staff, engage with local suppliers and help people connect with leisure”, said Mr. Cox.

Belgravia Leisure manages over 200 facilities across Australia and New Zealand, including the Victorian Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa Retreat.

A long-term operational contract will go to tender in the future after further consideration by Council.

Council, the liquidator and Belgravia are working hard together so Belgravia can commence management of the MAAC, by no later than Australia Day 2022. Updates will be provided as they become available in the New Year.

Mr. Rodgers added, “We thank the community for your continued patience”.
