Tallow Creek footbridge will be closed for repairs for five days from Monday 13 December.

Signage is being put up at the start of the public walkway on Broken Head Road next to the caravan park to let people know that there will be no access to the beach via the footbridge.

The bridge will be closed for around five days to allow for repairs to the bridge and the path which have been damaged by water and flooding.

Council will be building new concrete footpaths on either side of the bridge, raising the height by up to 25cm to improve public access when water levels in Tallow Creek are high.

The cost of the project is $75,000 and, weather permitting, the work will be finished by the end of next week (17 December).

“This public walkway to the beach is well used by many people and kids going to and from school and our aim is to get this work done as fast as we can and to get the bridge open again,” Chloe Dowsett, Coastal and Biodiversity Coordinator, said.

“Because of the high water levels in Tallow Creek we have not been able to get access to the bridge and we really want to get this project done in time for the holiday season,” she said.

“As part of the project we will also be installing a new sign that has information about the sensitive ecological environment of Tallow Creek and its cultural significance for the Arakwal people.
