Council wishes residents happy, safe holidays

Mayor Ruth Gstrein has wished all residents a happy and safe festive season on behalf of Corangamite Shire Council.

“On behalf of my fellow Councillors and Council staff, I would like to wish all of our Shire residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,” she said.

“It’s been another difficult year for many people in our community. This is a time to reflect on the great way our communities have come together to support one another.

“With many COVID restrictions being lifted we can spend time with our loved ones and reconnect with the people who are important to us.

“Government advice is still to carry a mask and wear it if you can’t keep 1.5 metres from others where possible, and to use hand sanitiser and practise good hygiene.

“The pandemic isn’t over but with high vaccination rates we can look ahead to 2022 with optimism.”

The Civic Centre and some other Council services will close for the holidays from 1 pm Thursday 23 December until 8.30 am Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Residents with urgent issues can still call Council on 5593 7100 and speak to an on-call officer.

Corangamite Regional Landfill and Shire transfer stations are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day but otherwise will operate as normal.

Cr Gstrein encouraged everyone to be careful on the roads and in the water, and to remain alert for fire danger warnings.

“If there is an emergency, watch Council’s Facebook page and website for information and updates,” she said.

“We’re looking forward to coming back after the break refreshed and ready to keep providing quality services for Corangamite residents.”
