The rebuild of the public amenities on the Princes Highway in Cobargo has taken a significant step forward with local building firm, Leserbuild starting site establishment works in the next few weeks.

Bega Valley Shire Council’s Infrastructure and Services Manager, Gemma Gill said while site establishment will commence before Christmas, the bulk of the construction work will be carried out in the new year.

“The original amenities building was lost in the Black Summer bushfires and this rebuild is an important step in the town’s recovery,” Ms Gill said.

“The new amenities building was designed by Tim Lee Architects and is sympathetic to the town’s character and heritage. It will include single accessible and ambulant toilets with nappy change facilities and linking pathways.

“The build will take a few months and Leserbuild is aiming to complete the project by mid-2022, weather permitting.”

While basic landscaping will be undertaken as part of the project, the broader community will have an opportunity to be involved in future landscaping and garden initiatives during 2022, as the revitalisation of the Cobargo CBD takes shape.

The temporary accessible facilities at 52-54 Princes Highway in Cobargo (opposite Cobargo Co-Operative) will remain open until the new amenities are completed and open for use.

The construction of an additional public amenity in Cobargo’s Apex Park is progressing well, with completion planned for late December.
