Recent wet weather lowers water restrictions across Central Highlands

Posted on December 14, 2021

Widespread rainfall across the Central Highlands has seen water supply more than double in the last two months.

Based on this significant increase Central Highlands Regional Council will ease water restrictions to level 0 for Emerald, Blackwater and Bluff and level 1 for Capella as of Monday 13 December 2021.

‘As we continue to watch the water flow in, it has been great to see our water supplies rise over the last few weeks,’ said Mayor Kerry Hayes.

The community has been able to breathe a sigh of relief with both Fairbairn and Capella Dam having recorded the highest water supply levels in the past 6 months.

Currently, levels are being recorded at:

Fairbairn Dam – more than 27%

Capella Dam – more than 90%

However, as always with the Central Highlands there is no guarantee when more rain will come.

‘While further rainfall is predicted over the coming summer months, our dry climate lends itself to ongoing droughts,’ continues Mayor Hayes.

‘Even with water restrictions now lifted, maintaining conservative water consumption should remain a priority for everyone within the Central Highlands.’
