Council Art Competition Asks Young People to Share Their Vision for Our Shire

Today Moree Plains Shire Council launched an art competition for the Shire’s youngest residents just in time for the school holidays.

Our Moree Plains – A Vision to 2032 is an art competition open to children and young people, aged 16 and under, who live in the Moree LGA. The aim of the competition is to capture our youth’s ideas and vision for the community for the next 10 years.

The competition is part of a review of the Moree Plains Community Strategic Plan, a plan that identifies the priorities and goals for our Shire.

Moree Plains Shire Council General Manager Lester Rodgers said while broad community engagement for the strategic review won’t begin until early 2022 with our newly appointed Councillors, the school holidays are a great opportunity to involve our youngest community members in planning for their Shire’s future.

“The Community Strategic Plan is reviewed with the community after each Local Government Election to reset our Shire’s priorities and goals,” said Mr. Rodgers.

“It is an important document as it guides all of Council’s activities for the (elected) Council term. That’s why we need to hear the ideas of everyone in our community so that, as a Council, we can plan how we will work to achieve your goals. Our youth are our future, and no Strategic Plan would be complete without the ideas of the upcoming generation.”

The art competition will run throughout these Christmas school holidays and into the new school year, with entries closing 7 March 2022.

Entries must represent the entrant’s ideas and vision for the Moree Plains and what they hope to see for the Shire within the next 10 years. Entries will be judged in age categories by the new Moree Plains Mayor with $150 Love Local gift cards up for grabs for the winners.

Entries can be drawings, paintings or digital art but should be no larger than an A3 piece of paper. For instructions, terms and conditions and an entry template, head to >> Moree Plains Shire Council - Our Moree Plains 2032 (nsw.gov.au).

More information about the consultation activities involving the wider community regarding the Community Strategic Plan will be shared in late January 2022.
