Cromer Park Field 1 is getting a facelift this week, with Council’s contractors renewing the FIFA-quality certified playing surface.
The old synthetic surface was 10 years old and had reached the end of its design life.
The field is used intensively, all year round, for junior and senior representative football for both men and women, junior club competition and training, six a side summer soccer and regularly used as a home ground for Sydney FC A-League Women’s side.
The upgrade will ensure the playing field remains a world-class facility for our local community and representative teams alike.
In addition to the new surface, we are also investing in best practice environmental protection solutions such as constructing a kerb around the perimeter, boot cleaning facilities at all exit gates and installing filters in the stormwater pits to minimise the risk of the infill or grass itself leaving the site.
Cork infill will be used to replace the existing rubber infill. This will reduce the urban heat island effect improving player comfort and in the unlikely event cork migrates off site will break down much quicker than rubber.
Stormwater will also be better collected, to be reused to irrigate the neighbouring natural turf fields.
The upgrade is due to be complete in winter 2022.
