After many months of water restrictions, residents in Yarraman, Millmerran, Haden and Kulpi are at the receiving end of some good news with Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) winding back to low level restrictions effective immediately.

The decision comes following good, localised rain in recent weeks. All other locations across the Region will remain on current restrictions.

TRC Water and Waste Committee Chair Councillor Rebecca Vonhoff said recent rainfall was positive news for the towns’ water supplies.

“We’ve been blessed with very good rain in recent weeks and as a result, some of our water sources have been replenished,” Cr Vonhoff said.

“After careful consideration we decided to wind back restrictions for these locations to low level.

“Millmerran, Haden and Kulpi have been on medium level restrictions for some time while Yarraman was on high level water restrictions, so this is particularly good news for that community. It’s important to acknowledge the significant impact prolonged restrictions have on residents.

“I am very pleased some of the pressure can be taken off these communities and I would like to thank those residents for their hard work.

“While our combined dam levels have increased and ground water supplies restored in some areas, the region is still being impacted by drought so it’s important everyone remain vigilant and continue to conserve water. Every drop still counts.”

Cr Vonhoff said restrictions and water saving measures remain in place across the Toowoomba region.

“Some other towns and districts around the Region rely on ground water sources for their water supply. At this stage, we have not seen increase in water levels in those bores to allow us to relax restrictions anywhere else, but we will continue to monitor groundwater levels in these locations,” Cr Vonhoff said.

“Most towns and localities across the region remain on medium level restrictions with high level restrictions still in place for residents at Cambooya, Clifton and Vale View.

“Council’s website contains advice around water saving initiatives and tips for restricting household water use when showering and cleaning in and around the home.

“I would encourage all residents to visit the TRC website for more information on what water restrictions mean for them, particularly as we move into the hottest months of the year and the festive season.”

A range of other outdoor activities such as watering gardens, vehicle washing, fillings pools, general cleaning, animal husbandry and pet care allowances are listed on the TRC website at www.tr.qld.gov.au/water
