21 December 2021

Bega Valley Shire Council’s Youth Summer Holiday program – Skate and Create – in January will feature two full-day game development days and two skate bus tours.

Council’s Youth Resilience Officer, Callum Champagne said the program is about creating opportunities for young people from across the shire to get to know one another, learn new skills and have fun.

“We’re responding to feedback given by young people to Council’s 2020 Youth Speak survey who said they were keen to interact with peers from other schools and towns and to have variety in experiences offered,” Mr Champagne said.

“We’re aiming to cater for the full spectrum of interests for those aged 12 to 24 including outdoor and indoor activities.

“The game development days will be held in Bega and Eden for up to 20 young people each and the skate bus tours will take participants from different parts of the region to experience the best of what’s on offer in another part of the shire.

“The full-day game development days will focus on building skills with digital art, digital music and coding, taught in the context of game development.

“Both days will be facilitated by the Eden Game Development Centre in partnership with Police Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC). No prior game development skills or knowledge are required.

“The full-day skate bus tours will focus on providing 45 young people with the opportunity to experience other parts of the shire.

“On one day we’ll take young people from the south of the shire to Bega skatepark and recreation park, Cobargo skatepark and pump-track, and Bermagui skatepark and the beach.

“On the other day we’ll do it all in reverse, taking a busload from the north to Pambula skatepark and recreation grounds, and Tathra skatepark and beach.”

There is no cost and lunch will be provided at each event.
