Council has appointed AEC Group Pty Ltd to undertake an options review of the Moree Livestock Selling Centre (MLSC).
Council’s General Manager Lester Rodgers said the announcement follows a commitment made by Council and the Moree Livestock Selling Agents Association in October 2021, to determine the saleyard’s future requirements.
“AEC Group Pty Ltd was selected because they have a solid track record in the livestock industry, especially selling trends and economics”, said Mr Rodgers.
“The MLSC is now over a half century old, and all stakeholders recognise that the facilities need to be modernised to remain safe, competitive and to reach its full potential.”
“The options study is an opportunity to assess the complex’s value to the Moree community and to explore all courses of action for its future.”
The review will include comprehensive consultations with all saleyard users and interested parties.
The impacts of the Special Activation Precinct and Inland Rail project on the site will also be explored.
AEC Group Pty Ltd will deliver their report by the end of May 2022 for consideration by Council.
Mr Rodgers added, “We would like to thank the Moree Livestock Selling Agents Association for their continued collaboration in evaluating the saleyard’s future”.
“We are also looking forward to working with AEC Group Pty Ltd and the broader cattle industry in our region.”
