A reflective and thoughtful exhibition that looks into society’s relationship with time, attention and social media is coming to the Town Hall in December.

Pause is an opportunity for viewers to take their time, to linger and to appreciate the subtleties of the artwork on display.

Artist Beth Kirkland has used the interaction between marks, colours, words and empty space on surfaces such as vintage lino to offer a place for audiences to focus and stop for a moment.

Kirkland said her interest in abstract art has developed over her time working in groups and through solo exhibitions.

“I find I am committed to abstract art because of the challenge presented by shape, colour, marks, spatial relationship and their myriad combinations over a divided or layered surface,” she said.

“These elements have power in and of themselves and Pause uses this by exploring the balance between the intuitive and the considered and the improvisation and composition.”

Beth Kirkland will be hosting an artist talk at the Albany Town Hall on Saturday 18 December to speak about her artwork, ideas and processes.

Pause is available to view at Albany Town Hall until 29 January between 10:00am and 5:00pm.
