Lithgow Storm Event – January 2022

Lithgow City Council is reminding residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay well away from flood waters following the storm event on 11 January 2022.

The Mayor of Lithgow City Council, Councillor Maree Statham thanked SES crews, emergency services and Council staff for their urgent and tireless efforts to support the safety of the community.

“This has been another blow for this city and the region. Our thoughts are with those impacted by these severe rain events. It is also important that residents slow down, drive to the conditions and avoid driving or walking in or near floodwaters. There is also the potential for further subsidence or flood water issues, so please be careful,” Mayor Statham said.

“Residents should also avoid contact with waterways and contaminated water over the coming days, even after the significant rainfall subsides.”

Council crews have been on the ground managing road closures, responding to water and sewer interruptions and supporting emergency services, as severe weather and flooding has again impacted the region.

SES crews have responded to over 50 requests for assistance since the event and are inspecting known hotspots and checking in on affected properties. Residents requiring flood assistance or support can contact NSW SES on 132 500.
