On Wednesday evening, Council was advised that a Gwydir Day Care staff member tested positive for COVID-19. Council took the precautionary approach to close Gwydir Day Care today, with the centre reopening tomorrow Friday, 14 January.
Council has since had Gwydir Day Care deep cleaned with all staff having conducted a Rapid Antigen Test.
The NSW Department of Education supported Council’s decision with the focus on reopening at the earliest opportunity.
Director of Corporate Services Scot MacDonald said it is a difficult time for the children, families and staff and we understand how important the day care service is for the community.
Mr. MacDonald said, “The centre will reopen and will operate according to its COVID safety plan and staff will continue to be tested.
“I ask the community to please be patient and understanding. We are doing our best to continue to provide high-quality care to our children, during these circumstances. We apologise for the change in service with minimal notice, however staff and families were notified about the closure as quickly as possible to allow for families to make alternative arrangements for today,” said Mr. MacDonald.
