The Shire is calling for community members to provide support and guidance for the design development of Rotary Park, The Old Settlement and a new pedestrian access bridge linking these two much loved locations.

As two distinct Focus Groups (one for each location), participants will help the designers understand these unique locations, how people use them and what design solutions could be appropriate. There will also be a requirement to review and give feedback on designs as they are developed. Design for the pedestrian access bridge will be considered by both Focus Groups.

The Shire is seeking community members who have a specific interest or involvement in the locations or use the facilities regularly.

“If you’re a local history buff and are involved with The Old Settlement, or a family who loves Rotary Park playground please get in touch via the Shire’s Yoursay page,” says Susan Elton, Project Planning Officer at the Shire of Augusta Margaret River.

The goal of the project is to protect and enhance these popular locations, respect cultural and historical values and encourage community connectedness.

The Groups will meet for at least three workshops between February and June 2022.

The Focus Groups and design development of Rotary Park and The Old Settlement are the second stage of the Shire’s Margaret River Precinct Plan. The Margaret River Precinct includes the southern entrance to the township and the river foreshore. The area is recognised as a special place for a wide variety of community members and holds important spiritual value for the traditional owners of this Country, the Wadandi People.

Interested participants are requested to nominate for just one of the Focus Groups. The Shire is seeking two members of the community who use these locations regularly to join each group. Participants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis.
