Wyndham City is proud to announce Natasha Smith as its One Wyndham recipient for January.

Ms Smith is passionate and is dedicated to creating a better world.

Ms Smith has been volunteering in a range of community settings over the past seven years.

She volunteers regularly at St Vincent de Paul, making home visits to the vulnerable, helping out the breakfast club, working in the call centre responding to emergency relief requests such as food, clothing, financial relief and homelessness.

Every Friday she assists Wyndham residents in need and helps provide food vouchers and emergency relief. Ms Smith is currently the secretary for the St Vincent de Paul Hoppers Crossing North annual conference.

She also coaches children in Under 10’s hockey and introduces new participants to get involved and give it a go through the Hookin2Hockey Program.

Ms Smith is currently studying first year of a Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics degree with the hope in the future to make and fit prosthetic limbs for amputees.

Wyndham Mayor Cr Peter Maynard said: “Ms Smith is a remarkable example of a local volunteer that shows true dedication, kindness and care.”

“Wyndham City appreciates Ms Smith’s contribution to our community and society by helping others and raising awareness of those in need. Importantly - making the world a better place.”

Through volunteering, Ms Smith has had the opportunity to gain an insight and connect with people from all walks of life; from helping the young to the seniors in our community.

“To ensure a thriving community we need to talk and listen to people and really get to know their story,” she said.

One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 and 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and are role models to other young people.

Each month Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the ‘Young Person of the Month’.

Winners are awarded a $200 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
