Community exhibition a time for reflection

Shire of Mundaring and City of Swan respectfully acknowledge 1 February 2022 as twelve months since the Wooroloo Bushfire.
This significant date will be marked by a number of reflective events for those affected by the fire, beginning with an exhibition titled ‘12 Months On – an Exhibition of Community Images’. The exhibition will open at Wooroloo Hall on Friday 28 January.
Shire of Mundaring President James Martin said the Shire and City had collaborated throughout the recovery.
“It has been a difficult past year for many people in our communities,” he said.
“The idea of the exhibition was raised by Wooroloo and Gidgegannup residents. It will provide an opportunity for the community to once again come together and reflect on the past 12 months.”
Representative of the 52 weeks of the community’s recovery journey so far, 52 images were selected for display from 100 submissions.
Cr Martin said he was mindful that people would reflect on the day in different ways.
City of Swan Deputy Mayor Mel Congerton echoed the sentiments of President Martin.
“Recognising 12 months on allows us to collectively acknowledge the past and our recovery so far,” he said.
“Strength and resilience come from within our community. Local initiatives such as the Community Led Art Project give those impacted residents a platform to reflect on their recovery journey through art, focus on healing and rebuilding, and brings our community together to reflect.”
The exhibition is also being supported in various ways by local organisations including Bendigo Community Bank Mundaring, Parky Care, Mundaring Arts Centre, Midland Junction Arts Centre and Perth Hills Events.
There will be a private opening night on Friday 28 January with the exhibition then open to the general public from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 29 January and 1pm to 4pm on Sunday 30 January at Wooroloo Hall.
The exhibition will then move to the Gidgegannup Agricultural Hall for the following weekend. Opening times for Gidgegannup are Friday 4 February from 10am to 1pm, Saturday 5 February from 11am to 2pm and Sunday 6 February from 1 to 4pm. The final day will also be open to dignitaries and members of the media.
The exhibition also provides a chance to connect with other community members and support services, with light refreshments.

A pop-up Youth Space and family movie at Percy Cullen Oval on Saturday 29 January from 6pm. A gathering at Gidgegannup Community Church on Sunday 30 January at 3pm. A Community Morning Tea at Gidgegannup Hall on Tuesday 1 February from 10am to midday. A Community Afternoon Tea at Wooroloo Hall from 2pm to 5pm on Tuesday 1 February.The Wooroloo Bushfire Community Recovery and Outreach Program is jointly funded through the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements. This program has enabled City of Swan, Shire of Mundaring, Australian Red Cross and Department of Communities to support the community.
