Initial feedback in the City of Swan's Review of dog access areas consultation has shown that community members are passionate about where and how they spend time with their dogs in our City.
Many dog owners have favourite parks and open spaces which they visit and have shared their views on the benefits of dog ownership and interaction in the community.
The City continues to call for feedback about the proposal to allocate specific off-lead access areas for dog exercise, instead of the current arrangement where dogs are allowed off-lead in all but a few select locations throughout the City.
Some key themes heard through the consultation so far include; the need for dog exercise or dog off-lead areas in every suburb, a mix of both fenced and non-fenced exercise areas for dogs, improved consistent signage and more proactive measures to encourage good dog behaviour.
Community members have also voiced their opinion about the importance of dogs being on lead or absent during sporting events, at children's playgrounds, schools, shopping centres and where native flora or fauna could be impacted.
The City will listen to all feedback and will continue to work with the community before any changes are made.
The survey and consultation remain open until January 31, 2022.
