Celebrate Lunar New Year in Canterbury-Bankstown

Do you want to know what your fortune is in 2022?

Come along and meet the God and Goddess of Fortune, as we welcome in the Year of the Tiger at our Lunar New Year festival, on Saturday 29 January at Bankstown’s Griffith Park.

It’s a fun-filled day for all the family, with traditional lion dancing, a fire twirling spectacle and a mouth-watering watermelon eating competition.

Along with the usual carnival rides and roving entertainment, there will be an array of Asian delicacies served up from a designated food truck market.

Other highlights of this year’s event include:

Dragon parade;Japanese Reishinkan Kendo display;Fashion parade;Oriental Dough Sculpture exhibition;Chinese firecracker display;The Fearless Tiger stunt show; andChopstick racing.

Mayor Khal Asfour said he was looking forward to getting his fortune told and seeing what was in store for the year ahead.

“I’m thrilled to welcome in the Year of the Tiger, as it is a strong, adventurous and enthusiastic animal,” Mayor Asfour said. “This year is all about making changes in our lives, takings risks and going on adventures.”

He said our City has long cherished its multicultural identity and is proud to celebrate events like Lunar New Year.

“We must embrace different cultures and events, and showcase the dynamic mix of languages, customs and traditions.

“I want to wish our residents that are celebrating Lunar New Year a safe and prosperous Year of the Tiger.”

To pay further tribute to the Lunar New Year, there will also be a Night Noodle Market held at Campsie’s Anzac Street Mall on Friday 18 February.
