Cool off at Australia Day Pool parties

Council’s pools will be the place to beat the heat and party this Australia Day.

Carnival rides, a live DJ, face painting and a free sausage sizzle – just some of the entertainment being planned for Canterbury-Bankstown’s Pool Parties on Wednesday 26 January.

The activities run from 10am-4pm at Birrong, Canterbury, Max Parker and Roselands Leisure and Aquatic Centres. Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said for those who wanted to celebrate Australia Day locally, our pools are the place to be.

“There will be plenty to keep the kids occupied all day, with lots of fun-filled things to do,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Most people are electing to stay close to home and this gives them the opportunity to do so.”

Mayor Asfour said celebrating Australia Day means something different to every one of our residents.

“We are one of the most diverse cities in the country; a vibrant array of many different nationalities, customs, languages and religions,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Whether you were born here, recently settled here, or been living here for a little while now, we’re all so lucky to call this country home.

“So, let’s make the most of this year’s national day by staying local and attending one of our COVIDSafe Pool Parties with your friends and family.”

On 26 January, Mayor Asfour and Australia Day ambassador and professional skateboarder Amar Hadid will also announce the 2022 Australia Day Award recipients and swear in 20 new citizens during a virtual ceremony.

“This is one of the best parts of the day – not only welcoming new citizens on Australia Day but also acknowledging the contributions of our City’s residents,” Mayor Asfour said.
