Council is seeking a Director of Engineering Services

Are you looking for a career-defining position involving some unique project opportunities?

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Director of Engineering Services role calls for a talented and adaptable leader ready to lead an ambitious team with significant experience in driving growth at a senior management level.

The successful candidate will work alongside and collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team. Council’s latest recruit Director of Corporate Services & Major Projects, Scot MacDonald, shares why it’s an exciting time to join Council and be a part of the Shire’s future development.

“After coming out of drought; agriculture is bouncing back quickly, and the community is thriving. There are some good economic opportunities on the horizon, like Inland Rail and the Special Activation Precinct (SAP), which are helping support the growth of our Shire. The stars are really beginning to line up for Moree”, said Scot.

The SAP is a 40-year long project to boost Moree’s industries and will provide a 4,700-hectare business hub. It includes further development of Moree’s Airport, which will see a new terminal building and a runway extension.

Helmed by the Australian Rail Track Corporation, Inland Rail is a 1,700-kilometre-long freight train network that will make it quicker and cheaper to transport goods between Melbourne and Brisbane.

Moree is situated at the junction of the Newell, Gwydir and Carnarvon Highways and all are set to become major logistical hubs across NSW’s northwest.

Scot mentioned, “These projects will revolutionise freight movements across the Shire and will create a positive impact, not only for Moree Plains but for the whole country.”

Scot has a career background in the cotton industry, where his early years were spent in Moree. He couldn’t resist the urge to return and be part of the Shire’s transformational growth.

“Wherever you go, you want to end up somewhere where a lot is happening and the potential is strong, and people are positive–that to me is Moree”, explained Scot.

With the Moree Plains receiving significant funding, thanks to State and Federal Government, Scot highlights the importance of effective and efficient grant management.

“It is our job to deliver what the community needs and deserves so we must allocate resources effectively”, emphasised Scot.

“To thrive in the Director of Engineering role, you must be adaptable, flexible, be community-minded, work well with colleagues and be accountable.”

The new Director of Engineering Services will be crucial to the development and execution of Council’s strategy to keep pace with the Shire’s growth.
