THE winners of the Australia Day Awards were announced at the Australia Day ceremony held at the Life House Church, (formally the old Gentleman’s Club) yesterday in Moree. Mayor Mark Johnson was pleased to announce the appointments and awards to the following recipients.
The winners of the 2022 Moree Plains Australia Day Awards are:
Moree’s Citizen of the Year – Tian Harris Sports Person of the Year – Wyatt Spiteri-Roberts Community Group / Event of the Year – Love and Lace. Long Ago Exhibition Volunteer of the Year – Helen Mitchell Volunteer Group of the Year – Moree Little Athletics Club Environmental Citizen of the Year – Rebel WoodhamA ‘special mention award’ a new category, was awarded to Jason Poutawa of the Salvation Army for his work mentoring local youth.
Many people contribute to making the Australia Day Awards a successful ceremony. A special mention goes to the Lions Club for their usual superb breakfast, Moree Pipe Band, for a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, Nicola Briggs for the Acknowledgement of Country and Moree Freight Specialists for preparations for a no-rain day.
Australia Day ceremonies were held by Councils across Australia highlighting and recognising individuals and community groups for their significant contributions made to their communities.
The Australia Day event also welcomed a new Australian Citizen to the Moree Plains, Mr Clint Harding.
