The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has partnered with Climate Clever, a free software platform that helps families, businesses and schools meausre - and reduce - their carbon footprint.

The partnership is a key part of the of the Shire’s Climate Action Plan, which aims to help the local community reach its Net Zero 2030 target.

The easy-to-use online platform and mobile app enables users to accurately track their carbon emissions as well as their consumption levels and costs from energy, water and waste.

Using simple analytics, it then offers suggestions for reducing carbon emissions and potentially making quick cost savings too.

“Climate Clever is a free software platform that can help everyone in the Shire of Augusta Margaret River to save money - and the planet,” explains Shire Sustainability Officer Katie Biggs.

“The software can help us to show that many small individual actions can collectively make a big change,” she added.

Climate Clever users’ data is fed back to the Shire (all information is anonymous), so the team can accurately track emission reductions – helping them to know if they are close to reaching the Net Zero target. The granular data also identifies which actions have been implemented to make the changes.

Nick Logan, the Shire’s Director Sustainable Development, believes Climate Clever is a smart way to make important savings.

“Small changes can have a big impact,” he says. “Climate Clever tracks what you do, then helps you to find easy ways to make a positive difference. And it can even save you money – which is always a bonus!’, he added.

Katie Biggs will host a series of workshops at the local libraries to share more information about the platform, answer questions and help with downloading the software.
