From plumbing and labouring to childcare and business administration roles, Council supports a vast array of vocational training including traineeships, apprenticeships, and school-based opportunities.

Traineeships and apprenticeships allow people to gain valuable work experience and insight into the industry they are working in. They also offer the opportunity for self-growth as they encourage maturity, self-confidence, independence, and motivation, which ultimately increases their chance of getting a job in the future.

For Council’s Apprenticeships:

• The position is a four (4) year indentured apprenticeship • Council will pay for TAFE enrolment fees and reimburse any required textbooks with the presentation of valid receipts. • Council pays for accommodation and reasonable meals while at TAFE as per the Travel and Accommodation Policy. • Apprentices are entitled to claim money back per km for travel and per night for accommodation. • One Rostered Day Off (RDO) per cycle – position dependant. • The possibility of a 12-month full time graduate employment opportunity being offered depending on performance. • The opportunity to start your apprenticeship without a full driver’s licence so long as it is obtained within the first year of starting the apprenticeship. • Highly competitive salary compared to local organisations. • Uniform and PPE provided.

For Council’s Trainees:

• Council will pay for TAFE enrolment fees and reimburse any required textbooks with presentation of valid receipts. • Gain valuable work experience and an in-depth understanding of a work environment. • Receive dedicated one-on-one support and mentoring throughout traineeship. • Study a Nationally Recognised qualification while they complete their work placement. • The possibility of a 12-month full time graduate employment opportunity being offered depending on performance. • Paid study leave available on site weekly. • Highly competitive salary compared to local organisations. • Uniform and PPE provided.

For School Based Traineeships (SBT):

• A paid employment opportunity. • Obtain a nationally recognised qualification. • Gain transferrable skills such as communication, prioritising and organising. • Be supervised and mentored by experienced and enthusiastic team leaders. • Have access to broad and varied experience throughout our large organisation. • Receive access to pro rata leave entitlements. • Council is flexible and adaptable to allow the School Based Trainee to get a good school, work, life balance. Often allocating more time at the start of their Traineeship to allow more time at the end of their SBT for revision for HSC exams. • Uniform and PPE provided.
