Want to get involved in some meaningful, grass-roots work with your local community this year and make a contribution to the future of the Byron Shire? We need nominations for Council’s committees and groups by 27 February 2022.
Council is calling on Byron Shire residents with wide-ranging experience and skills to nominate themselves for one of Byron Shire’s advisory committees, the S355 management committees that look after halls and venues, or the Access Consultative Working Group.
“We need community representatives for our advisory committees and there is a broad and fascinating range of subject areas you can make a contribution to including Climate Change and Resource Recovery, Infrastructure, Heritage, our new transport strategy Moving Byron, Water and Sewer, Floodplain Management, Audit Risk and Improvement, Coastal and ICOLL and Arts and Creative Industries,” Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services, Vanessa Adams said.
“We also need community members for the important task of helping to manage our community halls and venues. We all love our local halls but it is the commitment of those who volunteer their time to run these venues that make them so special to each locality.
“We are also calling for members of our community with a lived experience of disability, and groups that support people with a lived experience of disability, to join our Access Consultative Working Group. The purpose of the group is to allow for consultation on a broad range of access and inclusion issues in the Byron Shire.”
“We are indebted to all the people who generously volunteer to take on these roles as community representatives and encourage people interested in taking up these rewarding positions to find out more and get involved,” Ms Adams said.
Candidates applying for membership of one (or more) of the committees will need to demonstrate suitability based on a list of criteria. Find out more from Council’s website.
To submit your application for nomination and for future information about each advisory group’s purpose, membership and meeting frequency, as well as the expertise required for each committee, go to Council’s website.
Nominations close 27 February 2022.
