Gannawarra Shire Council’s 2021/22 road reseal program reached a major milestone this week, with 50 per cent of the program completed.
A key component of Council’s Capital Works program, the road reseal program involves improving a portion of Council’s sealed road network to a new condition each year.
“Council is responsible for the management of more than 500 kilometres of sealed road within the municipality, ranging from high traffic roads in our major towns to low traffic residential roads,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“As outlined in the recently adopted Road Management Plan 2021, Council has a duty of care to road users and the community to maintain all public roads for which it is responsible in a safe condition and to specified maintenance standards.”
As part of the 2021/22 program, work occurred on Saturday, 5 February to reseal the edges of Wellington Street, Kerang between Victoria Street and the railway crossing.
“Although Wellington Street is maintained by Regional Roads Victoria, Council is responsible for maintaining the roadsides, which include the car parking spaces along this section of road,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Council thanks motorists for their patience as these important works were completed.”
The program continues this week with reseal works occurring along Channel Street at Cohuna, Koondrook-Murrabit Road at Koondrook, O’Reilly Road at Leitchville and Kow Swamp Road, near the intersection of Leitchville South Road.
“Residents impacted by current and future reseal efforts will receive notification of works by mail from the contractors overseeing the works, with any major work involving traffic delays to also be promoted via Council’s website and Facebook page,” Mr O’Reilly said.
