Visitors to Kerang’s central business district are benefiting from a rejuvenated streetscape and extra seating following the recent completion of the second stage of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment.
The $1.317 million redevelopment, funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, are part of continued efforts to link the Kerang Railway Station, the award-winning Victoria Square precinct and the Kerang Open Space Precinct, located along Scoresby Street between Albert and Victoria streets.
“It has been fantastic to see residents and visitors benefiting from these improvements along Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“The redevelopment has improved pedestrian access at two of Kerang’s busiest intersections, as well as created spaces where shoppers can relax and eat.”
As part of the redevelopment, footpaths along the central business district section of Scoresby Street were rejuvenated, with new bench seating and trees planted.
A dedicated accessible outdoor eating area was created outside Gray’s Bakery at the northwestern corner of Fitzroy and Scoresby streets (above), whilst following discussions with business owners, the grassed area outside the Royal Hotel on the southwestern corner of Scoresby and Victoria streets was retained and enhanced with the installation of timber bollards and screens between the grassed area and road (below).
“Council thanks residents, business owners and visitors for their patience whilst these works occurred,” Mr O’Reilly said.
Improvements to the Kerang central business district will continue in 2022, with the third stage of the redevelopment to proceed thanks to funding from the third round of the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
“Council will allocate over $2 million of the $2.636 million received from this valuable program to upgrade street furniture and pavements along Victoria Street, leading into Wellington Street,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Council looks forward to working with the community this year to progress the redevelopment’s plans, which will explore new ways residents and visitors can interact within the town
“Council especially thanks Federal Member for Mallee, Dr Anne Webster and the Federal Government for their valued support for this transformational project.”
