Liverpool City Council is encouraging all residents to save the date for the next Chemical CleanOut on Sunday 20 February from 9am – 3.30pm at 99 Rose Street, Liverpool.

Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun said a Chemical CleanOut will provide members of the community with a safe way to dispose of potentially hazardous household materials or chemicals.

“Our Chemical CleanOut offers residents a great opportunity to clear out any dangerous chemicals or materials that might be lurking in their homes. These are the items that are not otherwise accepted at our Community Recycling Centre or by our waste team on bin night.

“I encourage all residents to take advantage of the next Chemical CleanOut on Sunday 20 February,” Mayor Mannoun said.

Residents can dispose of the following household chemicals and items, up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kilograms of one single item, except paint, where up to 100 litres in 20 litres containers is accepted:

Paint and paint-related products (thinners, strippers, varnish);Pesticides/herbicides;Solvents and household cleaners;Motor oils, fuels and fluids;Batteries;Gas bottles;Fire extinguishers;Pools chemicals;Acids and alkalis;Hobby chemicals such as photography chemicals; andFluorescent tubes.

Residents are advised to transport materials in original containers if possible, without mixing, and ensure containers are well-sealed. Containers holding liquids should be wrapped in newspaper and secured in plastic bags, then packed into buckets or trays. It is advisable to transport the materials in a space away from passengers, such as in the boot.

Business-related and commercial quantities will not be accepted. Call the Environment Line on 131 555 to find out correct disposal for businesses.
